The magnetic tree

Several of the people I worked with on this film are now key pillars in my life. El árbol magnético was shot almost entirely in Chile, in a place known as Cajón del Maipo. The landscape and its peculiarities shape the experience when visiting this country. We sought to turn Marianela’s (Manuela Martelli) family home into a sort of pop-up book, ensuring that each shot had multiple layers of interpretation—events unfolding on different levels. Nature surrounds the house, and we also wanted it to be visible through the windows. Marianela experiences the place in a special way, which is why we decided she would bring nature inside the house through the floral details in her wardrobe.
