We decided to shoot on S16mm, both for stylistic reasons and for the nobility of analogue. The entire film was shot almost entirely with available light to emphasize realism and give the actors freedom of movement during the scenes. Visually, we also chose to evolve the cinematographic language as the story progressed. At the beginning, when everything was filled with hope, we favored wide-angle lenses and low angles, leaving space above to show the sky. As things started to go wrong, long focal lengths and high angles became dominant, creating a sense of claustrophobia.

The landscape and its peculiarities shape the experience when visiting this country. We sought to turn Marianela’s (Manuela Martelli) family home into a sort of pop-up book, ensuring that each shot had multiple layers of interpretation—events unfolding on different levels. Nature surrounds the house, and we also wanted it to be visible through the windows. Marianela experiences the place in a special way, which is why we decided she would bring nature inside the house through the floral details in her wardrobe.
